Vintage Table Lamps
Vintage table lamps are a great way to accent a retro, Victorian or French décor. There are many types and styles including wicker, bamboo, and glass table lamps. The type you choose will depend on the other facets of your arrangements and the type of furniture you have chosen.
Vintage is generally considered any item from another era. Thus, table lamps from the 1990’s and earlier fit the definition of vintage. These lamps were originally made of iron or brass in an era that loved detail and craftsmanship but also appreciated something fun. Having left the depression behind they wanted something light and different. You will find table lamps that look like drooping flowers, vines and even birds reproduced in exquisite detail. If you’re lucky, you can even find an original that has been rewired!
The 60’s and 70’s produced many styles such as art deco, bubble lamps, ball lights which were considered almost space-age and geometric designs. These vintage table lamps were made of glass, ceramics, metal, chrome, wood and acrylics. The 40’s and 50’s saw the development of Lucite, which was very versatile and produced the first mushroom-style lamps that later regained popularity in the 1970’s. You’ll find lots of interesting shapes and colors in this style of vintage table lamps.
You might want to go for a more formal style and choose marble combined with porcelain. These stone and glass table lamps can be stately and elegant or a bit whimsical depending on the colors used and the type of art on the porcelain. In fact, this combination of materials is so versatile that you can choose them in the styles of the French Revolution to modern day, with Far Eastern influences to Western European!
